Year 4

Year 4 Homework

Each week children in Year 4 are expected to:

  • Read 5 times and record in reading records
  • Practise their weekly spellings ready for a test each Friday
  • Complete a page of times tables book using a times table of their choice

Homework is set on a Monday and is due in on a Friday. Each child has a Times Tables book and Reading Diary to record their homework and reading in. Homework books can be given on request.

Maths:

Times tables should be practised every week ready for a test on a Friday. By the end of Year 4 it is expected that children know all their times tables up to 12x12, therefore we encourage children to practise all times tables, not just the ones they know. Children should also practise their times tables using TTRockstars.

Reading:

It is expected that each child reads at least 5 times each week. Reading records will be checked on a Thursday morning in school. Teachers will keep a record of who is reading regularly at home. Children can read any book, comic, newspaper etc that they wish. Reading diaries must be signed by an adult.

Spellings:

Spellings will be given out on a Monday, ready for a test on Friday. Homework will usually focus on a spelling rule or pattern. Spellings can be practised by writing the words in sentences, ‘rainbow words’, word pyramids or being tested by an adult.

Homework will be checked by the teacher on a Friday and house points will be awarded for effort made, so it is important that the children have their homework books in school by then.

In addition children are also given the opportunity to complete curriculum homework. At the start of each new topic a list of suggested activities are given to the children and can be completed throughout the term or half term. This is optional homework and can be brought in at any time.
